Awesome Annuals for Fall

Before we know it, fall will be here! You can enhance your current garden with fall colors, varying textures and new focal points.

Check out some of the best annuals to up the ante in your autumn landscape:

Pennisetum varieties like Limelight Spray and Purple Majesty attract bees, butterflies and birds, and work well as a border, focal point or even in a container. The Limelight Spray millet grows up to five feet tall and is vibrantly lime green. Purple Majesty is just as tall and delights with deep burgundy foliage with many blooms.

Amaranthus is an ornamental species bred for flowers with old-fashioned appeal. Love-Lies-Bleeding is the most widely recognized amaranthus. It has dark red tassels that hang from its leafy plant that grows between three and five feet tall. Green Tails is much like Love-Lies-Bleeding, but with lime green tassels. Globe amaranth is a one-to-two-foot-tall multi-stemmed plant with clover-like flowers.

Coleus is available in a seemingly endless variety of leaf colors and patterns. It’s leaves are popular for adding a punch of fall color.

Believe it or not, edible mustard greens and kale are both beautiful and dramatic additions to front yard landscape. Savanna hybrid mustard grows giant, glossy, dark green leaves, while Japanese Giant Red mustard is maroon and chartreuse. Redbor Kale leaves are curly, deep purple and highly ornamental.
